To promote a dialogue among writers, artists, and
academics in Cuba and in the diaspora on political
change and the future of Cuba. Encuentro is a
quarterly journal devoted to a bro a discussion of
issues in the humanities,
the arts, and the social sciences and is
distributed widely in Cuba. The journal includes
articles and commentary from international scholars
and independent Cuban intellectuals in Cuba. |

• Black Cuban Forum
40 000 USD
To assist black Cubans to organize and promote a
peaceful transition to democracy. The Black Cuban Forum
will organize a dialogue between black Cubans in exile
and in Cuba and help them develop an agenda and platform
for political change.
• Center for a Free Cuba
17 000 USD
To provide emergency humanitarian assistance to former
and current political prisoners and their families as
well as families of the pro-democracy movement activists
facing repression in Cuba.
• Committee for the Support of Independent
Farmers’Cooperatives in Cuba
52 000 USD
To provide technical, organizational and material
assistance to the independent cooperative movement in
Cuba. The Committee will collect and send information on
agricultural cooperatives to Cuba and link independent
Cuban cooperatives with cooperatives in Latin America
and Europe.
• Cuban Committee for Human Rights (CCHR)
70 000 USD
To support the operating costs and program activities of
CCHR’s Miami office. Activities include monitoring and
investigating human rights abuses in Cuba, publishing
and disseminating human rights publications in Cuba and
internationally, and providing humanitarian assistance
to political dissidents and prisoners of conscience in
Cuba.
• CubaNet
64 000 USD
To provide humanitarian and material assistance to Cuban
independent journalists on the island. CubaNet will
continue to support independent journalists that
contribute regularly to its Web site, www.cubanet.org.

Disidente Universal de Puerto Rico
45 000 USD
To publish the monthly journal El Disidente,
which provides information for activists in Cuba,
dissidents in exile and international news
organizations.

Federación Sindical de Plantas Eléctricas, Gas y Agua en
el Exilio
25 000 USD
To support the independent labor movement in Cuba. The
Miami-based Federación will work with independent labor
organizations to educate Cuban workers on their
international labor rights.
• Foundation for Defense of Human Rights
27 810 USD
To cover partially the expenses of holding an exhibition
of Polish poster art in Cuba to demonstrate the struggle
for human rights and political freedom in Poland. The
exhibition will be held in Havana, Camagüey, Pinar del
Rio and Santiago de Cuba.

Information Bureau of the Human Rights Movement in Cuba

1999 Reprogramming
To gather information from groups in and outside Cuba on
human right conditions and the activities of dissident
groups. The information will be shared with different
Cuban groups and a network of international human rights
organizations and journalists.
• International Republican Institute
348 007 USD
To promote a peaceful and democratic transition in Cuba.
In cooperation with Cuban pro-freedom activists, IRI and
its partner organization, Miami-based Cuban Democratic
Revolutionary Directorate (Directorio), will support
education and dissemination of pro-democracy materials
to Cuban activists.
• National Democratic Institute for International
Affairs
60 001 USD
To enrich dialogue in and outside of Cuba on the
democratic role of political parties and the military in
political transitions and democratic consolidation in
other countries.
